Summary

CPT-pro is a multi-module software program designed for the complex analysis, interpretation and presentation of CPT (Cone Penetration Testing) soundings.

The graphic tools in CPT-pro allow the creation of full geotechnical and geological reports and documentation. The diagrams (sounding sheets and cross sections) can be exported to .wmf and .emf files for use in external applications such as graphics / word processing progams, CAD (AutoCAD and MicroStation).

CPT-pro can use data from a range of CPT systems and import/export of GEF and AGS formats allow open data transfer/exchange with many other standard systems.

Basis and formulae for CPT interpretation

The methods, formulae and graphs for CPT sounding interpretation are mostly extracted (with the knowledge and consent of the authors) directly from the publication:

CPT-pro modules

The modules can be selected according to your requirements:

• CPT Explorer for CPT file and project management. Integrated browser and project based structure makes it easy to search, copy, move and open CPT files. CPT Explorer is included with Interpretation.
• The Interpretation module provides detailed sounding sheet print outs with individual sounding parameters and/or graphs of the interpreted data. Soil classification interpretation is shown as a geological profiles and comments can be added.
• The Map module is fully integrated with both CPT Explorer and Interpretation modules. Show CPT locations and descriptions on maps with addition information such as borehole data and other test data. Import vector maps (DXF/DWG) and export to graphic files. There are two versions:
  • LT (light): No editing of vector data
  • Extended: Allows creation and editing of vector maps. Map can be created from GPS or other survey data.
• The Cross Section module allows the creation of geotechnical sections based on CPT soundings and their interpretation. Supplementary profiles from the Profile Editor module (see below) can also be added.
• The Profile Editor module allows the entry of user data for the geological structure at given points. For example from drilling or dynamic sounding.These supplementary profiles can be described and printed in the same way as for the sounding sheets.
• The Project Manager module allows quick and easy viewing, editing and commenting of header data of all CPT data files stored in given folder. Project Manager is free for all users of the ISE version of CPT-pro with Cross Section and Profile Editor modules.
• The Sample Database module. Consists of efficient tools for creating a data base of soil samples using graphic tools to show the position and length of samples on sounding sheets.

CPT Explorer

Control module to integrate the system. For easy and effective management of the CPT files and projects.

Features:

• Directory tree to select working folder.
• Project management window to create and edit CPT, Map and other project data files.
• Hierarchical map project selection method.
• Thumbnails selector. Thumbnails can be set to a number of sizes and include charts of selected parameters. Border colours of thumbnails indicate file type. Colours are user-defined.
• Entry of full header information for the project and the data file.
• Drag and Drop function for items including thumbnails.
• Comprehensive set-up window for most default parameters.

Interpretation

Control module to integrate the system. For easy and effective management of the CPT files and projects.

The Interpretation module performs the following operations on CPT sounding data:

• Operation on, and correction of, CPT data files
• Creation of user defined interpretation formulae with the optional Formula Editor
• Presentation of CPT sounding results
• Interpretation of CPT sounding results

The advanced graphics capability of the Interpretation module allows printout of sounding sheets containing graphs of individual sounding parameters and/or graphs of interpreted quantities. The interpreted result of soil classification is presented in the form of a geological profile with appropriate geological symbols and descriptions of individual layers. The program allows easy input of user comments to the sounding sheet. The table containing the basic information on the sounding (number, date, coordinates, etc.) is formed automatically, with the ability to edit each description.

Map module

The Map module displays CPT data and test results on maps.
Both vector (DWG, DXF - AutoCAD) and image files (BMP, JPG, etc.) can be used as the background.

The Map module is available in two versions:

1. LT (Lite): For viewing data only. No editing of maps.
2. Extended: Includes all necessary tools for editing the vector drawings (DWG and DXF formats) of the map. User vector maps can be created from GPS surveys.

The operation of Map module is similar to, and compatible with, AutoCAD. Most functions are the same and the user interface is almost identical so the CAD user is working in a familiar environment.

Cross Section module

The Cross Section module allows the production of geotechnical cross sections on the basis of CPT soundings and interpreted results. It can also use optional profiles created in the Profile Editor module.

Each borehole can be presented on the cross section as a geological profile with appropriate symbols and/or with the graph of any sounding or interpreted parameter.

The section can be plotted as a broken line passing through selected boreholes or as straight line. For a straight-line section the strip width is defined by which boreholes are projected onto the section line. Correct and precise selection of the section line allows the program to create a map with the names and locations of all analysed soundings and any additional bore profiles.

Graphics tools in the Cross section module allow "freehand" drawing on the section and text may be added with full control of font, colour and angle.

Complete geotechnical and geological reports can be produced, printed and exported (WMF or EMF files) for use in external software.

Project Manager module

The Project Manager module features the following operations:

• Includes tools to create a data base of soil samples with number/name of CPT test or profile, number of sample, date, sampling equipment, upper level, length of sample, laboratory tests with description and results, comments, report with properties of all samples taken from the defined CPT test position.
• Uses graphic tools in the Interpretation module to show the position and length of samples on sounding sheets.
• Allows direct access to the Sample Data Base from within the Interpretation module to edit properties of chosen samples.
  Sample can be selected directly from Sounding Sheet with mouse cursor.
• Allows direct access to Sample Data Base from within the Interpretation module to edit properties of chosen samples and control printing of cross section.
  Sample can be selected directly on Cross Section with mouse cursor.
• Uses graphic tools in the Cross Section module to show the position and length of samples on cross sections.
• Project Manager is free for all users of ISE version with Cross Section and Profile Editor modules.

Profile Editor module

The Profile Editor modules allows input of geological structural data at set points. This data could be obtained from geological drilling or dynamic sounding. These supplementary profiles can be described and printed in the same way as sounding sheets.

Sample Database module

Features:

• Import and export of most CPT data formats.
• Simultaneous display of all data files in folder.
• Display and edit all header data.
• Easy and effective input of header data.
