• Our Training Courses for Professionals

     

    GeoMEM provides expert led training in both software and instrumentation. Each course is designed to maximise your return on investment and trainees quickly become proficient in the operation of the software and/or instruments.

     

    Your Trainer

    Dr James Tweedie, GeoMEM’s director and principal trainer is a geologist with experience in both the academic / research environment and in metals / mineral exploration. James is a professional Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Analysts and Programmers.

    Course levels

    There are two course levels with different pricing:

    • STANDARD: Applies to normal software training.
    • ADVANCED: Applies to more advanced software topics and instrumentation training.

    Course Provision

    The training courses are provided in one of three ways:

    • OnSite - training at your premises in the UK, Ireland and parts of Europe. Normally one to two days, depending on the course requirements.
    • OffSite - at GeoMEMs premises near Dundee, Scotland for a maximum of 2 delegates. Normally one to two days, depending on the course requirements.
    • Online - One to one online training using telephone/Skype(preferred) and TeamViewer remote access so that you and the trainer both see the same screen. Session based and best suited to a specific aspect of a software package. One to two hours per session.

    Courses can be tailored to your requirements. Any extensive specific preparation may incur additional costs depending on the number of courses required based on the specific requirements.

    OnSite and OffSite courses booked at the time of buying the appropriate product are discounted by 5%.

  • Two courses designed to help you get the best from Surfer

     

    Introductory course

     

    In which you will learn how to:

    • Install and set up Surfer
    • Prepare your source data for Surfer
    • Select and filter data
    • Grid the data and work with gridded data
    • Use the most common gridding algorithms
    • Produce contour maps from the gridded data
    • Produce 3D surfaces from the gridded data
    • Output and print your results
    • Import bitmap images as backdrops
    • Calculate areas and volumes / cut and fill

    In addition you will learn some of the short-cuts and tips for best use of the software.

    Level: STANDARD
    Duration: 1 Day

    Automation course

     

    In which you will learn how to:

    • Start and work with Scripter
    • Write short Visual Basic scripts (macros/programs) to control aspects of Surfer
    • Design, develop and test more complex scripts

    Level: ADVANCED
    Duration: 1 Day

    We also offer custom programming of your Surfer - we do all the hard work so that you can use Surfer as efficiently as possible in your organisation without the hard work. More information here.

  • The subjects of our courses range from introduction to some of our third party software (such as Surfer, Strater, MapViewer, RockWorks) to courses covering borehole surveying instruments and drill data loggers/automation.

    Whilst most of our OnSite courses have taken place in the UK and Ireland, special courses, at the request of customers, have been run in Europe and Canada.

    Course sizes have ranged from 1 person up to 12 attendees.

    All prices shown below are for the course and any course materials. Any travel and accommodation expenses and/or special preparation time (for tailored courses) incurred by the trainer will be charged at cost.
